Hi,

Interesting looking site.

Well, since there’s a B5 section here. By pure coincidence, as an exercise in becoming familiar with a few bits of software I have recently compiled a list of B5 cannon ships. Managed to get/build 101 of them.

You’ll need to be running Internet Explorer 5.5 and above to view it, have Flash installed, and a Broad Band connection would be more than slightly useful.

http://www.themadgoner.com/TMG/Sci_Fi/SciPages/Babylon5/Ships_Page/Mark4_Build.htm

I think it is the biggest listing of CANNON ships on the net (Celestia for instance has more with the concept art), so if anyone else knows otherwise, please let me know, along with any comments or suggestions.

Cheers.

I had a look through your site. I'm using Opera and I can't really access your site. How come it's not accessible to everyone?

The syntax of the java/html can be different for different browsers, they say for security reasons. I'm sure it is, partly, but I find that hard to swallow based on some of differences.

The original version was viewable by all browsers, then I started putting in some “hidden” features to make the thing look nice, that’s when the syntax problems started kicking in. As I’m no expert on the languages/browser interpreters and there was a time limit on it’s development, I tried fixing them, but it was going to take too much time - so basically said sod it and started using IE specific constructs for some of the effects, nice for me, not so nice for non IE users.

But as I said (on front screen), most (though probably not all) users of firefox, netscape etc, do have a copy of IE kicking around.

The Opera browser's OK here in the USA. As said, some browsers disable java or html for security reasons.

Have to admit I’m not familiar with Opera at all, though I do know that Fire Fox for instance does not support VBScript which is something I did use a fair bit.

Sorry.

This was my first attempt at doing a page, the second will be bigger, with more content, and I’ll spend more time on getting round all the problems surrounding multiple browser compatibility.

What program did you use to make this? I use pure HTML so my website works with all browsers (the website isn't this forum by the way).

Didn't use a program to create it.

Used Notepad to edit it. Then a few searches on the net to become familiar with the various syntax's, and started coding.

Ahh wow, that's really impressive. I think you've done a good job on it. What about building two versions? Let people go to an enter screen to go to the all browser compatiable one and the IE only one?

If I ever get my act together and understand Java/Html/VBscript and what they can and can't do for various browsers, it shouldn't be needed, as hopefully the main browsers, at least, will be covered.

I've done a bit more work with web pages so this thing will be updated so other browsers can view it.

I'lll be leaving the re-coding until the new page is ready for upload. It will contain every ship ever seen in B5 crusade, the films and LOTR, plus a fair bit of new stuff. But it won't be for a while though.

Cool, I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. I really enjoy watching Babylon 5, and have nearly finished the 5th season.

Got to admit, the site looks good...

BUT a little over-fussy... Perfer simple over complicated...

(I really need to spend more time on the net)

Anyhow, been working on it and already added a pile of new ships like the Valen, Liandra, Enfili,, etc. The layout has been a real big problem, but have decided (probably) to keep the scroll look with a load of extra buttons– (went all revolving galaxy with maps for a while).

The fuzzy look was more to do with me trying to optimise things, but since I’ve had plenty of feed back from those with broad band I now have a better idea what a basic one meg system can handle – so bye bye fuzziness and hello bigger, slower and more detailed animations – plus a fair bit of new content and graphics. The final canon ship count will be around 136 (but will probably add two sections for stations and concept/fan ships as well).

Looks a fair bit better when compared to the current version. Final version is still a few months away though, finding time as usual is the problem.
